No matter what age, we all want beautiful skin. For many of us, having glowing, smooth, blemish free skin does not come naturally. Proper skin care is a must and with age, maintaining that youthful appearance becomes a little bit harder. When looking to fight back fine lines and wrinkles, we need to consider the changes that happen to our skin at different stages in our life. Our skin has different needs as we mature. So when thinking about anti-aging, here are some tips to keep your skin young and healthy at any age:

In your 20’s – Technically, you’re still young, but it’s not a bad idea to start thinking about using anti-aging products early on. Most 20 year olds are doing a lot more damage to their skin than they often think such as sun bathing, indoor tanning, drinking alcohol, smoking and not getting enough sleep. These bad habits are open invitations for free radicals to enter into our bodies causing cell damage that can speed up the aging process.  Your body becomes overloaded with toxins and you wake up the next morning with dark circles, puffiness and dullness in your skin.

The biggest concern for women in their 20’s is protection. Along with your daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine (which you should be doing), you should also incorporate at least an SPF of 30 or higher and use a cleanser with antioxidants to help fight off free radicals from causing much damage.

In your 30’s/40’s – After your 20’s, fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots become more noticeable. At this age, collagen and elastin (which gives skin fullness and elasticity) begins to decline and regeneration slows leaving you with dull and uneven skin tone.

Start using products with ingredients such as retinol and peptides to help support collagen and elastin. Incorporating products with antioxidants and vitamin A will also help to stop inflammation from the sun and decrease the appearance of discoloration. Plus, switching out your moisturizer to one that contains hyaluronic acids will better help supple skin. Hyaluronic acids are naturally found in the body and are mostly concentrated in the skin, holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

If you find that these products are just not effective for your crows feet, frown lines or brown spots then non-invasive procedures can be a surefire way to treat these problem areas. Unless you’re squeamish about needles, Botox can help to smooth out those embarrassing wrinkles while microdermabrasion or light treatments, can help fade brown spots and give your skin a more even texture.

In your 50’s and beyond– In your 50’s and older, you’ll start to see some sagging, and volume loss in the face and hormonal changes can lead to excessive dryness in the skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers can sure to help plump up the areas that has suffered from volume loss. You may also want to try skin-tightening treatments, like thermage, that will help to tighten saggy skin.

Along with a proper skin care regimen, you should also maintain a healthy diet, exercise and drink plenty of water. Proper nourishment is essential to proper skin care. Keeping up a healthy lifestyle over all will surely help to slow down the aging process keeping you looking younger and beautiful as you age. However, the fight against aging doesn’t stand a chance when you also have the right products taking care of your skin.
